The opening of the Istanbul New Airport, under the IGA (Istanbul Grand Airport) project, is taking place today, on October 29.
This is the 3rd airport in Istanbul, which is located 35 kilometers from the city center and covers the area of 76.5 million square meters. The airport will be able to accomodate 200 million passengers annually and offer flights to more than 300 destinations.
The design of the Istanbul New Airport has been focused on preserving the ancient Turkish-Ottoman culture. For this reason, the airport’s air traffic control tower was also designed as a tulip – one of the cultural symbols that represents flourishing:
