On November 6, AZAL President Jahangir Asgarov met with representatives of KPMG Azerbaijan – Senior Managers Farid Bakhshiyev and Andrey Ivanov, according to the press service of the Azerbaijan Airlines.
The main topic of the meeting was the details of the Open Skies agreement between Azerbaijan and Europe. At the request of the Government of Azerbaijan, KPMG is a consultant on this project.
Despite the belief that AZAL does not want the other airlines to take over the Azerbaijani routes, Jahangir Asgarov said that there were no problems with the implementation of Azerbaijani flights by other airlines, and vice versa, the broader commercial rights are granted to foreign carriers.
Based on the results of the negotiations, the parties agreed to continue joint activities on the implementation of the roadmap developed by KPMG.
Currently, Heydar Aliyev International Airport serves more than 30 airlines in more than 50 destinations. During the first nine months of 2018, the capital’s airport served 3.49 million passengers (10% more than last year). Taking into account the opening of new flights, it is one of the priorities to raise this figure up to 7 million passengers a year by 2020.
